LAUBHOLZTAGE 2024: A pioneering event for sustainability and innovation

LAUBHOLZTAGE 2024 – an event that was not only compelling from a technical perspective, but also conveyed a clear message for the future of the textile industry. The two days of this event were a vivid demonstration of how sustainability and innovation can form the basis for transformative development.

From the very first moment, it was clear that this was no ordinary industry meeting. The morning presentations set the scene by emphasising the crucial role of hardwood as a sustainable raw material for textile production. The discussions on economic opportunities and innovative climate protection measures impressively demonstrated how ecological and economic benefits can be achieved in equal measure through sustainable forestry and the use of wood.

The highlight of the first day was undoubtedly the inspiring keynote speech by climate journalist Louisa Schneider. Her passionate words called for a fundamental change in the textile industry, focussing not only on ecological but also social justice. Louisa Schneider emphasised the urgency of action and reminded us that the textile industry, as one of the world’s most polluting industries, has the potential to bring about real change.

Another moving moment was the festive presentation of the “Waldmacher 2024” award for the future. The award for the “Klimawald Westhausen” project emphasised the importance of innovative approaches in the field of sustainability. The honour in the “Young Talent Award for Daycare Centres and Schools” was particularly touching, with the children of the Jebenhausen nature kindergarten beaming as they accepted their well-deserved prize. Their commitment clearly showed that education and responsibility are important from an early age.

In the afternoon, we bid farewell to Ludwig Lehner, our esteemed Chairman of the Executive Board, with thanks and appreciation as he enters his well-deserved retirement. His many years of leadership and tireless commitment will continue to inspire and guide us in the future. The absolute highlight of the evening event was undoubtedly the exclusive preview of the WDBSD TX® fashion collection. The students of the TEXOVERSUM Faculty of Textiles presented a unique collection that impressed with its creative sophistication and demonstrated the versatile application possibilities of the innovative material made from regional beechwood fibres. From fibre production to the final design, the collection impressively demonstrated how sustainable technology and aesthetic design can merge harmoniously.

The second day of the LAUBHOLZTAGE was dedicated to revolutionary technologies. Discussions on sustainable carbon fibres and textile architecture in the construction industry impressively demonstrated how ecological standards can be advanced through the use of renewable resources and recyclable materials. Smart textiles in medical applications offered innovative solutions that improve diagnosis, therapy and monitoring while prioritising comfort and hygiene.

LAUBHOLZTAGE 2024 proved to be a triumphant success, made possible by the tireless commitment and unparalleled dedication of the entire team. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all participants, speakers and partners who contributed to making the Hardwood Days an unforgettable experience.

We are now impatiently looking forward to the upcoming presentation of the WDBSD TX® fashion collection at Berlin Fashion Week on 3 July. This unique collection illustrates how bold visions and technological breakthroughs can result in concrete changes that lead the entire industry into a bright and sustainable future.
